The standard test method specifies x-ray fluorescence method of determination of Al, Si, P, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Sb, Sn, As, Bi, Pb in casting brass.
Brass castings analysis
The sample preparation and standards preparation for calibration includes their finishing with a lathe and further cleaning with alcohol. The roughness of the surface shall be better than 50 micron, has no cracks, porous or cavities, no slack or nonmetal inclusions.
The sample for analysis is made as a 40 mm diameter disk up to 20 mm thick with flat surface. The surface roughness is to be better than 50 mm.
If there is not enough sample material, the disk can be made 20 mm diameter 10 mm thick, or as a sample with one flat surface, which is within the specified above dimensions.
No further sample preparation is required. The sample is placed into a sample cartridge and then into spectrometer. Analysis is fulfilled automatically with a chosen program.
